A Study of AFNA Cadets¡¯ Perceived Readiness before Graduation

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose : This descriptive study aimed to evaluate AFNA cadets¡¯ perceived readiness upon graduation by utilizing READI-Korean version.
Methods : To assess AFNA cadets¡¯ perceived readiness, the self-reporting READI-Korean version was administered to 93 AFNA senior cadets 5 days before graduation. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics via SPSS WIN 12.0.
Results : The perceived readiness of the subject was 3.46(¡¾0.43) on 5point scale. The readiness of the each dimension of readiness was as follows : the readiness of clinical nursing competency was 3.37, operational nursing competency was 3.41, soldier and survival skill was 3.46, personal / physical / psychosocial readiness was 3.57, leadership and administrative support was 3.35, and group integration and identification was 3.93. Some of the competencies, however, including ¡®Care for life- threatening injuries¡¯, ¡®Care for nuclear- biological-chemical injuries¡¯, ¡®Recognize tension pneumothorax¡¯, ¡®Use of field ventilator¡¯, ¡®Competent with deployable medical system¡¯, and ¡®Familarity with standard army communication equipment¡¯ showed less than 3 point.
Conclusion : The perceived readiness statues of the AFNA cadets upon graduation were moderately ready. The subjects who had will to apply to future oversea-deployment reported higher level of readiness than the subject who do not. Some competencies which showed less than 3 point need to be educated and trained immediately.
